OUTLINE
Partake in this tour and dabble in a bit of Amamian culture and see the sights along the way. Try your hand at the traditional art of dorozome (mud-dying) while visiting the village to discover the local textile made from silk: Oshima tsumugi, a commodity regarded as one of the world's three great textiles. We then drop through a lovely white sandy beach before heading off to a folk museum to find out about the island and its culture. Lunch is at a beautiful local restaurant before we head over to a distillery to enjoy the native distilled spirit made nowhere else in Japan (kokuto shochu). Changing the scene for a holistic view of the island, we then make our way to a breathtaking cape to capture the island from above. The tour ends with a private shima uta show performed with the sanshin (three-stringed instrument). Shima uta is the awe-inspiring music of the Amami Islands.
