Oshima Tsumugi

Oshima Tsumugi is a rare and highly regarded traditional textile native to the Amami Islands, recognised as one of the world's three most extraordinary textiles.

 

Woven from silk and dyed using Amami's unique techigizome (yeddo hawthorn-dyeing) and dorozome (mud-dyeing) technique, it is renowned for its beauty, softness, and remarkable durability—it is even said to last for three generations. Depending on your tour, you can also experience traditional dorozome for yourself.
